Choosing To Live A Healthier Life

I have always been someone who really loves to get out there and enjoy time with other people, which is why I started becoming more and more involved in outdoor activities. Unfortunately, a few months ago I was left with a debilitating injury that I knew I had to resolve, and so I met with my medical care provider. He told me that I had been living with a stress fracture, and I knew that I had to have surgery to get it fixed. During my recovery, I decided to create a blog all about health and medical topics to help other people just like me. Check it out.

Your Questions Answered About Rhinoplasty

A nose is the part of a face that can have a big impact on how someone looks. If you have always been teased about the size or shape of your nose, it is possible for changes to be made. A specialist can make changes that will give you a nose that you are satisfied with and confident about. However, there are several things that you should know about undergoing the rhinoplasty procedure before deciding that it is what you want. Take a look at the content below for answers to questions that you should know about changing your nose via the rhinoplasty procedure.

1. What Happens During the Rhinoplasty Procedure?

The rhinoplasty procedure is able to be performed on an outpatient basis in most cases. Basically, the specialist will make a few incisions on the interior area of your nose. The incisions are necessary so he or she can access bones and cartilage. What is done with the bones and cartilage will depend on the type of changes that you want made to your nose.

2. Will the Changes Be Drastically Different?

The extent of changes that will be made during the rhinoplasty procedure is up to you. Slight changes can be made to your nose, or the specialist can create something that is completely different. It is wise to put a lot of consideration into the type of changes that you want made before making a final decision. You don't want to end up with a nose size or shape that you are not happy about.

3. What is Involved with Recovering from the Procedure?

In most cases, you will be sent home right after the procedure to recover at home. However, it is also possible that the specialist will want you to spend a day or so in the hospital. A splint and bandage will be placed on your nose until it has healed to the specialist's satisfaction. It can take several weeks for your nose to heal and the swelling to go down, but it depends on what is being done.

4. Are There Any Risks to Be Concerned About?

There is the possible that your nasal passages will be blocked, but the problem should go away after the swelling goes down. It is also possible that your nose will bleed for a while. An infection can develop as well, but it is common with every surgical procedure. The specialist will give you antibiotics to treat the infection if it happens to develop, and you will also be given the antibiotics before an infection develops.
