Choosing To Live A Healthier Life

I have always been someone who really loves to get out there and enjoy time with other people, which is why I started becoming more and more involved in outdoor activities. Unfortunately, a few months ago I was left with a debilitating injury that I knew I had to resolve, and so I met with my medical care provider. He told me that I had been living with a stress fracture, and I knew that I had to have surgery to get it fixed. During my recovery, I decided to create a blog all about health and medical topics to help other people just like me. Check it out.

3 Surprising Tips To Reduce Your Risk Of Heart Disease

Your heart is an imperative part of your health and wellness, so you may exercise, visit your doctor for regular exams, and try to follow a healthy diet. Unfortunately, certain conditions may arise even when following a somewhat healthy lifestyle. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women. Thankfully, you can reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Here are a few surprising ways to protect yourself from heart disease.

Sleep

Sleep is important for your overall physical and emotional health, but it can also improve your cardiovascular health.

Without a full night's sleep, you have a higher risk of developing hypertension, which is one of the main causes of heart disease. In addition, people who do not get enough sleep have slower metabolisms, which can lead to weight gain and cardiovascular problems.

It is difficult to determine how much sleep is the right amount, since each person's needs vary. However, most experts recommend between 6 to 8 hours of restful sleep each night to reduce the risk of heart problems.

Companionship

Another surprising way to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease is through companionship.

Excess stress is also linked to high blood pressure and heart disease. Individuals who are in a healthy relationship feel less stress and anxiety compared to others who are single or in unhealthy relationships.

Of course, human companionship is not your only option. Whether you are single or happily married, consider bringing a dog into your home and family's life.

Enjoying the company of a dog can reduce stress and lower blood pressure while improving your overall health and wellness.

Hydration

Dehydration reduces blood circulation, which can lead to the blood thickening. Without proper hydration, your body may remain in a state of dehydration that can cause both high blood pressure and high levels of cholesterol.

Experts recommend drinking half of your total body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, you should be drinking at least 100 ounces of water each day.

Unfortunately, most people do not realize they are not drinking enough fluids throughout the day. Here are a few signs of dehydration:

  • Reduced urination
  • Dark urine
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Fainting

Ensuring your body is hydrated at all times will improve the way you feel, but it can also benefit your hearth health.

With proper understanding, you can reduce your risk of heart disease. To learn more about your cardiovascular health, talk to your doctor today.
